KEARNEY, Neb. - Legendary country music artist Charlie Daniels will perform at 4 p.m. Dec. 13 at Kearney's Viaero Event Center.
One of the most recognizable names in country music history, Daniels' career spans 50 years and includes more than 20 million in album sales. In 2008 he was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, and this year he entered the Musicians Hall of Fame in Nashville.
The Charlie Daniels Band's Kearney concert will include many hits, as well as select Christmas songs from the band's latest holiday album "Joy to the World: A Bluegrass Christmas."
A skilled guitar, fiddle and mandolin player, Charlie Daniels' music covers many genres, from rock, country and bluegrass to blues and gospel.
Daniels is known primarily for his hit song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia," which topped both country and pop charts in 1979 and won him a Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal. The song also was included on the soundtrack for the movie "Urban Cowboy."
His set list often includes a cover of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues," an acoustic version of "How Great Thou Art" and the popular "What The World Needs Is A Few More Rednecks," a song that has gained attention for its political statements.
"I used to say, ‘I'm not an outlaw, I'm an outcast,'" says Daniels. "When it gets right down to the nitty gritty, I've just tried to be who I am. I've never followed trends or fads. I couldn't even if I tried."
Tickets for the show are on sale at www.kearneyevents.com, by calling 308-338-8011 or by visiting the box office in Kearney.
