Kearney High School Speech Results

At Saturday's Millard North "Mustang Invitational," four Kearney High speech team members earned the final leg of bids to compete in the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions at California State Fullerton in May. 

 

Katie Nelson won her bids in dramatic interpretation and duo interpretation with partner Chris Lyons, who also received a bid for oratory.  Keegan Potthoff earned national qualifying honors in humorous interpretation and duo interpretation with his partner, Karlee Currin.  

 

Potthoff and Lyons also were finalists in the triathalon, finishing fourth and sixth overall among contestants who competed in three events. 

 

Earning the first leg of her nationals bid was Maggie Konz, who finished third in oratory.

 

Other medal placings for the Bearcats in the champions division were: Jessa Newby, runner-up, and Grace Manley, fifth in informative; Potthoff, runner-up in humorous interpretation; and Lyons, sixth in oratory.

 

Award winners in the honors division were Lyons/ Nelson, runner-up, and Currin/ Potthoff, fourth in duo interpretation; and Nelson, sixth in dramatic interpretation.

 

Kearney will compete on Saturday in the Lincoln North Star "Gator Invite," and the North Platte "Blue and Gold."
